Summer Staples

Summer weather has finally arrived! Or so I thought… One day it’s in the 80′s, the next it’s raining and 60. New England weather has been bi-polar lately, however, in prep for the [consistent] warm weather, I wanted to share some of my summer staples. I have an abundant amount of Jack Rogers sandals and live in them all summer. Hitting the snooze button too many times calls for getting dressed and putting makeup on in about 20 minutes from start to finish. Maxi skirts, maxi dresses and colorful scarves make this process possible, along with my Longchamp bag to throw all of my essentials in. I never wear foundation, however, the Bobbi Brown Moisturizing Balm is so lightweight and airy, it feels like I have nothing on my face. It has a perfect amount of coverage and leaves your face feeling fresh and dewy. Do you have any summer products you can’t live without? I would love to know!

Pattern Play

Spring is all about breaking out of the cold weather routine and reinventing your wardrobe to try different styles. When I bought these two pieces of clothing separately {polka dot chambray + floral blazer}, I honestly never thought to pair them together. However, once I played around with this outfit I knew it was a match made in heaven. Playing with patterns and just having fun with your clothing can give you a completely different perspective on your wardrobe. I also have this polka dot shirt in white and it has become one of my closet staples. I had such a fun time taking these pictures over the weekend with Meg, Christine and Lydia. We wound up finding a gorgeous spot on the Yale campus, however, we were freezing our buns off at one point. I guess I should have checked the weather forecast before wearing so few layers!

Mani-c Monday

My new color crush: coral. I went into Macy’s on a specific mission – I wanted to get a new nail polish and eye pencil from Estee Lauder. My motive: the free 8 piece gift set with a $35 purchase. The Lilly Pulitzer case is so adorable and will be perfect to carry around my summer essentials. Over the years, my nail collection has grown quite a bit, however, up until this weekend I didn’t have a coral color. So as I was scouring out the vast color selections, my eyes came across this beauty and I knew I had to grab a bottle. “Coral Cult” is THE color for spring and summer – it will look perfect with a great summer glow.

The only thing that is mildly attractive about this cold weather is that I can use my car heat as a makeshift blow dryer. Other than that, I got nothing. However, daylight savings means leaving work while the sun is still up which makes me a very happy girl. Needless to say, the warm weather is approaching, the flowers are starting to poke out of hibernation and the nail colors are shifting from deep plums to minty greens. 1. My new best friend: these cable drops have been a life changer {I am an organizational freak so I absolutely love things like this}

2. New suede pumps: red ones are BCBG from Marshalls {got for a steal of $32} HOWEVER these purple suede pumps I also got for a steal {30% off + $25 gift certificate + best boyfriend let me use his leftover money from a gift exchange = J.Crew pumps for $50 – score!}

4. Mall haul: Gap neon shirt, J.Crew sweatshirt, J.Crew polka dot chambray shirt, AE hair ties, J.Crew suede pump + VS bra

5. Drugstore/makeup haul: Revlon Illuminance Creme shadow in “Precious Metals” {one of my favorites!}, Maybelline Color Tattoo in “Bad to the Bronze”, Chicken Poop lip junk {sounds super gross but it contains beeswax + soy which makes for great smelling + hydrated lips}, Essie’s “Smokin’ Hot” + “Mint Candy Apple“, NYX lip gloss in “Beige” {tip: dab a few spots in your bottom lip and rub together – the color is so natural}, Shea Moisture Hold and Shine Moisture Mist {this stuff smells AMAZING – it contains Coconut oil for that tropical scent}, Garnier Ultra-Lift Firming Night Cream {goes on so nicely and leaves a silky texture}, Bobbi Brown Illuminating Bronzing Powder in “Antigua” + Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisturizing Balm in “Extra Light Tint” {both of these are absolutely worth the money – especially the balm – which leaves my skin feeling so hydrated and refreshed}

BBQ Pulled Pork Mac + Cheese

This dish is the ultimate comfort food meal – BBQ + Mac and Cheese combined into one helping of bubbly, cheesy deliciousness. I followed this recipe. For time saving purposes, instead of making my own pulled pork, I used Trader Joe’s pre-made Pulled Pork to cut the time in half {yes, all you have to do it microwave it and yes, it is mouthwatering for a pre-made quick fix}.

Ingredients I used:

Trader Joe’s pre-made Pulled Pork {already comes in BBQ sauce}

1 pound of pasta {I used elbows}

5 cups of Mac and Cheese blend shredded cheese {can be found at Stop and Shop – I bought 3 bags = 6 cups}

4 oz. cream cheese, at room temperature

2 cups heavy cream

1/4 cup Panko bread crumbs

2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
