Cocoon Coat

I got this coat last year for Christmas and I absolutely love it. It is such a versatile clothing item – I can dress this up and wear it for the holidays over a cocktail dress and some pumps, or it can be more casual and I can wear it over a chambray shirt and leggings {like I did in the pictures below}. This coat will definitely be getting a lot of use this winter – it is going to be a cold one up here in New England this year!

{Currently} Favorite Beauty Products

I love a good skincare regime. I also love finding new products and trying them out. Typically, I do 1-2 face masks per week {one deep cleaning one more hydrating}. My favorites right now are the Farmacy Honey Potion, Lush Mask of Magnaminty, the Bubble Clay Mask and the Fresh Instant Perfecting Mask. The Farmacy mask is for hydrating the skin. I love this mask! It has a pretty dense consistency but when you start rubbing it in, the ingredients start to activate and your face starts to feel the mask working. The sensation at first is a bit strange – it’s makes your face hot – but not in a bad way. That “hotness” goes away after you stop rubbing the mask in. I wash it off with warm water and then with cold to lock the moisture in. My favorite for a deep clean in the Mask of Magnaminty. I do find that this mask can bring on breakouts {especially that time of the month} so I tend to monitor when I use this one. I love how it deep cleans and has that fresh peppermint smell. It basically smells like mint chocolate chip ice cream {added bonus}. I wait about 15 minutes until it dries, wash it off and immediately apply a serum.

For face moisturizer, I switch between the Aveeno Daily Moisturizer and the Mac Comfort Creme. The Mac moisturizer smells so good and glides on your skin so easily. I typically tend to reach for the Aveeno on most days because of the SPF factor. Before applying my moisturizer, I always make sure to put on a serum before. For daytime, I have been using a Vitamin C serum. I love the one I linked below from Amazon. It is so lightweight and perfect before putting on a moisturizer. At nighttime, I typically use my Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery serum. I have been using this for years and I absolutely love it. The smell is so fresh and reminds me of an old time apothecary shop. Can’t get enough of it!

At night, I love a good lip balm. My go to is just Berts Bees {the classic stick} however, I got the Fresh Sugar lip balm in a sample kit and I have been really liking it. It smells like sugar and goes on so smoothly. I put it on at night before going to bed and in the morning, my lips are nice and hydrated.

{Faux} Leather Jacket

Finding a good looking leather jacket without the price tag was a huge challenge for me. Every one I liked was $800 and up, and that is just not in my budgeting at the moment. I found this one at Forever 21 last season and hadn’t gotten too much use out of it until now. I absolutely love the lapels on this jacket and it is a great alternative for a real leather jacket. I got it a size bigger than what I would normally get so I could layer sweaters underneath without it being too tight or bulky. I can’t wait until it gets even colder and I can style it a few different ways. This is such a versatile and classic staple to have in your closet!

Crockpot Chili

Last week, the weather started to change and there was a slight crisp in the air. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love summer, however, the freshness of fall is my favorite. Steven loves him some chili, so I decided it was the perfect time to cook up a batch and break out the crockpot. This was such an easy recipe and it easily lasted us 4 days worth of either dinner or lunch. It would also be a great recipe to bring to a Sunday full of football and food! I made some corn bread to go alongside of this dish, however, it would be great over nachos, hot dogs or baked potatoes. If you feel so inclined, you could also add dark red kidney beans to this recipe {we aren’t huge fans of beans so I decided to leave those out}. This chili was a quick, hearty meal that I will be sure to keep at hand as the weather continues to chill.

1 lb. ground beef

1 stalk of chopped celery

1/2 chopped yellow onion

1 1/2 tbsp. chili powder

1 tsp. cumin

1/2 tbsp. minced garlic

1 can of petite diced tomatoes (15 oz.)

1 can of tomato sauce (15 oz.)

1 can of beef broth (15 oz.)

1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce

salt and pepper to taste

Shredded mild cheddar cheese (for topping)

Sour cream (for topping)

img_5397Directions:

  1. In a saute pan, brown the ground beef, onion, minced garlic and celery stalk over medium high heat.
  2. IMPORTANT! Once that is cooked, drain the excess grease from the pan. Put the beef mixture into your crockpot.
  3. Open your cans of petite diced tomatoes, tomato sauce and beef broth. Dump those into the crockpot.
  4. Add chili powder, cumin and Worcestershire sauce, stirring everything together. Add salt and pepper.
  5. Cover your crockpot lid and set it to low for 5-6 hours.
  6. Once it has slow cooked, serve hot. Add shredded cheddar and sour cream to taste.

Honeymoon Photo Diary – Grand Cayman

After all of the planning the goes into a wedding, escaping on a honeymoon is a much awaited treat. So much time, effort and stress goes into the planning process {though it is all worth it the day of!}. We decided to wait a week after the wedding to leave for Grand Cayman. I am so glad we chose to do that – it was so nice to wait and then have something to look forward to at the end of the week. The weather was beautiful and the water was unbelievably clear. These weren’t all of the pictures we took {I don’t know if I could fit them all in!} but I wanted to share some with you guys 🙂 Happy Friday!!
