White Jeans

Finding the right pair of white jeans can be a bit of a challenge {especially when you are only 5’2″}. However, I stumbled upon this particular pair on the clearance rack as I was walking out of the Loft. The $14 price tag was calling my name and I decided to go back and give them a try. I love the flare leg to this jean and the white is a perfect end of summer look.

Summer Maxi Dress

And just like that, it is almost the end of another month. This summer seemed to have flown by {maybe because I was so busy} however, the weather is still calling for breezy and lightweight outfits. I live in maxi dresses over the summer months, primarily because they are so easy to wear {however not so easy to wear in humidity – you know what I mean ladies}. I love getting simple dresses so I can pair a statement necklace or earrings with it.

black + turquoise

I love the juxtaposition between the darkness of this black cami and a turquoise sweater. Summer is all about light colors, but you can never go wrong with a basic black. You can wear it year round, especially for our upcoming fall season in New England. Pairing this top with white bermuda shorts and basic nude sandals makes for an easy and quick outfit.

Recent Reads – Summer Books

During the school year, finding time to read is an extremely challenging task. I absolutely love to read books, I always have. However, as soon as I entered the world of elementary teaching, my reading consists more of Knuffle Bunny and Dr. Seuss. I mean, who doesn’t love a good Dr. Seuss book? – however, it’s not the first thing I reach for when I am home looking for a novel to read. While away on my honeymoon, I had a little bit of time on my hands {something I am not very used to} and decided to use it in the best way possible {sitting on the white sand beach with a mango mojito and book in hand}. I researched a bit and downloaded a few books that stood out to me while we were away. I found these all to be super quick, fun summer books. Remember these are just my opinions about the books! I would love to know if any of you have read any of these books and what you thought.

1. Mindy Kaling, “Is Everybody Hanging Out Without Me?”

For anyone who knows me well, I am a HUGE fan of The Office. My husband and I have literally watched all of the seasons on repeat umpteen times. Like legit, we go to bed every night watching it. I find Mindy {who plays Kelly Kapoor} to be hilariously funny. At times, yes, Kelly can be a bit much and wildly annoying on the show, however, when I was reading this book, I was reading it in her voice and it made it so much better. Mindy’s writing in this book is completely her own and that is one of the reasons why I love it. She stays true to herself, and talks about her childhood and her life and just random s*%$. Her humor and wit is refreshingly charming.

2. Jennifer Close, “Girls in White Dresses”

Girls in White Dresses

I had this book in my Nook app queue for quite some time and never got around to reading it. You know when you start reading a book and you get distracted and never get back to it? That’s what happened with this one. So I finally forced myself to sit and read it. I really enjoyed reading this book. It was a super quick read and the premise of the stories were {somewhat} relatable to my 21 year-old self. It follows the life of three girls in their early twenties figuring out life, careers and relationships.

3. Camille Perri, “The Assistants”

The Assitants

Coming from someone who is no stranger to the trials and tribulations of student loans, this book rang true to my heart. “The Assistants” is about a young, hard working girl, Tina, who works for a multi-millionaire in the city. When something happens with an expense report and she can pay off the remaining balance on her student loan, Tina comes to find herself between a rock and a hard place. The story follows what happens and the choices she makes based on this decision she has. I was surprised at how quickly I read this book {I think it was less than 2 days} but I didn’t want to put it down. Very empowering book with a great ending!

4. Susan Mallery, “Daughters of the Bride”

Daugters of the Bride

I think this may have been my favorite book out of these 5 that I read. From start to beginning, I did not want to put this down. I read the majority of it on the plane ride coming home and finished it the next day. Susan Mallery does such a great job at getting you invested in each character. The story follows three sisters, aka the daughters of the bride, who are all different in many ways. Their mother is getting married to a wonderful man, who they all love, but they are all trying to find their own love in the story. Such a great and quick read, with truly deep character stories.

5. Julie Buxbaum, “Tell Me Three Things”

I didn’t realize this when I found this book, but I would classify it as a young adult book. Being a teacher and always wanting to read new books, I didn’t find this to be an issue. I really enjoyed reading this book and appreciated the main character, who was a teenaged girl dealing with her mother’s passing and her father’s new wife, all while being moved all the way from Chicago to California. She leaves her best friend behind and feels like she is all alone. However, one day she gets a mysterious email from Somebody/Nobody offering to help her navigate through her new school. Thinking it might be a trick, she is hesitant as to how far she really wants this email exchange to go. I found myself wanted to know who this person was so, naturally, I flew through this book as well. Very cute read with a twist ending.

We meet {again}

Needless to say, I have been more than MIA lately. And there are absolutely no excuses to be made for having let hydrangeas and handbags go completely off the grid. To be honest, life got completely in the way and, while there were so many wonderful and good things that have happened, there were some bad things as well. The highlight of my year, however, was marrying the love of my life and my high school sweetheart {I cannot wait to share some pics!}. It has truly been so wonderful and with all the bad, this goodness in my life has surpassed some of the bullshit. That in itself has been such a blessing to me. However, some things have been a little bit harder and a little bit difficult for me to deal with. I don’t know if I feel comfortable enough to let you guys in the know just yet, but life has thrown me some curveballs. I fell off the grid for awhile, trying to focus on getting my career started and some other things, but then it hit me {hard} that I truly love this creative outlet. I love sitting at my laptop and coming up with post ideas and just writing. I miss it. And I have missed this little blog of mine. For those of you that have been coming back to check on my website and have seen that its been down, I am SO very sorry! I needed to focus on some other things and I truly hope you can understand that. I also feel that for awhile I was trying so hard to focus on one aspect of my life, when in reality, this blog was a little piece of my life that I neglected. Between working full time during the school year and then a handful of after school jobs, I needed some me time and to really sit down to see what makes me happy. Life gets in the way sometimes, but finding what makes you happy and what you love is something so important to cherish. I get too hard on myself sometimes, as I am sure some of you do as well. Don’t we all from time to time? So, with all that being said, here is to a fresh and new start for me and hydrangeas and handbags! I hope y’all stick around xoxo
